Private Sights/Common Sites

My photo-based images study the counterpoint between inner reverie and social connectedness.

Starting as a street photographer, I shoot in some commonplace/common place; camera handheld, subjects unaware.  Next I depart from the original incarnation of the image, as my approach becomes more consiously conceptual.

I reverse the commonly accepted pre-staging of the “photoconceptualists,” preferring to digitally after-stage .  This allows me the spontaneiy of discovering unexpected ways to emphasize the underlying content.  Think about the myth of Michelangelo “seeing the horse in the block of marble.”

I remove, distort, highlight and abstract elements within the scene to pare down the divide between our states of individuaton and integration.  Composites from other sources are avoided, as my process is to reveal intent rather than virtuosity of technical skills.

Images are Piezo Prints using archival ultrachrome ink on fine art substrates. Each print is unique in size, subject or method of interpretation
